St. Andrew the Apostle (St. Andreas)
Her/His Story
Saint Andrew was one of the Twelve Apostles and the brother of St. Peter. Originally a fisherman, Andrew was among the first to follow Jesus Christ after hearing the preaching of St. John the Baptist. Because he brought others to Christ, including his own brother Peter, he is often called “the First-Called Apostle.” St. Andrew traveled widely to spread the Gospel and establish Christian communities. He ultimately gave his life for his faith, being martyred on an X-shaped cross, which is now known as St. Andrew’s Cross.
